Dear Seeker,

"Have you ever noticed how, most of the time, we cannot have a conversation with someone without walking away and measuring our performance? Even walking through a supermarket we wonder whether people are looking at us or not, and then we act accordingly. Step out of these mental movies; their producer is the misery of self-measuring. Let go because you know that it's impossible to be self-conscious and also be at peace."

Special exercise: Turn off the walkie-talkie.

We talk to ourselves about EVERYTHING. The instant we walk away from a performance, a presentation, a conversation, a close call, etc. we get swept away by a flood of commentary in our heads. What's done is done -- so when you hear the walkie-talkie start up, power down! Don't give these useless afterthoughts your attention. You'll hear the chatter start up again and again but STAND FIRM and refuse to get drawn into the conversation in your head. The disturbance you feel disappears as you remove your attention from what disturbs you.
