Dear Seeker,
"Just as you would never buy a sack of diamonds without first confirming the seller's professional standing and the stones' actual value, you should never buy any of your own thoughts or feelings until you are certain of their source and that they are indeed yours!"

Special exercise: It's not what you say, but who's saying it
Of all the sayings my mother had while I was growing up, my least favorite was this -- "It's not what you say, but how you say it." Boy, nothing got a rise out of me faster than that little quip! And why did it bother me so much? Because I knew it was true. My mother (rightly so) was always quick to correct those moments when my tone and attitude expressed far more than the words being said. And now I can see how this laid the foundation for an invaluable discovery -- behind every attitude is a "someone" who has that attitude! When you catch those moments where your attitude doesn't match your words, seize this golden opportunity to now go a step further by asking yourself -- "who" is behind this? Angry me? Sad me? Righteous me? Defensive me? This separation will give you a chance to decide if you really want to give voice to this negative intruder.
