Dear Seeker,

"You can't silence yourself, but you can allow stillness to show you its ways."

~ Guy Finley

Special exercise: I will be still

You do not need to go somewhere quiet and be all by yourself, away from people and distractions, in order to be still. Stillness is something you can choose to meet life with literally anytime, anywhere. Even when chaos breaks loose all around or within you, you can resolve to be "in it but not of it." Experiment with watching a disturbance rather than participating in it. When you're behind someone at the grocery store who is unfairly hassling the clerk... when your spouse makes a cutting remark... when you feel a pang of jealousy over what someone else is wearing. Stillness is not found by making the disturbance go away, or by avoiding disturbances altogether. Stillness is already a part of you, and allows you to meet disturbances without being disturbed.
