Dear Seeker,

"Never speak out of anger,
Never act out of fear,
Never choose from impatience,
But wait . . . and peace will appear."

Special exercise: Wait watchers

Waiting to act is not advisable if you're crossing a street and suddenly see a car coming at you! But waiting before you react to some shocking news, before you gossip about others, before you punish someone who hurts you, invites new understanding about yourself, leading to more peace within yourself. But this is not about perfecting your ability to tolerate or control an unwanted situation. By waiting before reacting, you create a golden opportunity to be inwardly watchful. In these moments you have the chance to see what it is in you that feels the need to get the upper hand by lashing out in anger or by ensuring you're never caught off guard again. Look for the fear behind your reaction, because it's the fear itself that steals your peace, not the person or event that the fear points to.
