Dear Seeker,

"Self-observation is to our lower nature what sunlight is to a cave-dwelling bat. Just as the bat cannot stand the sun's bright rays, neither can the false self live in the light of self-healing awareness."

Special exercise: Remember me?

As you sit here reading this, bring your attention back to yourself. Become aware of your surroundings and everything your senses are telling you. What do you hear? What do you see? As you take everything in, can you feel how your awareness changes the moment? By putting your attention on what is going on around you, you interrupt whatever you were unconsciously connected to within you -- irritation, tension, self-satisfaction, lethargy. Now, work to keep your attention as long as possible. You will find that you soon drift away, but that's okay. It's enough for now to just see the truth of your condition -- that you are unable to truly keep your attention for very long. Eventually, whether it's five minutes later or five days later, you will feel a tap on your shoulder and hear a whisper that says, remember me? Treat this voice like a long-lost friend. Instead of lamenting the fact that you were lost, embrace the reminder to be here now. These small efforts will strengthen your wish to be more present to yourself, and what you observe as a result will begin the healing process you long for.
