Dear Seeker,

"Our real spiritual development is under invisible laws: To grow, we must learn. To learn, we must teach. To teach we must lead. To lead, we must make mistakes. Making mistakes tills the ground of us, making it receptive to new and higher lessons, and thus the positive spiral completes itself, even as it rises above its original starting point."

Special exercise: Teach by learning, learn by teaching

We've all heard the expression to "teach by example." A closer look at this idea reveals that when we work to embody truthful principles, we are in fact both students and teachers in those very moments. Life continuously invites us to "do the right thing" such as by seeing a job through to the end, or by turning the other cheek when someone hurts us, or by owning up to a mistake we made. In these moments life is essentially saying, I am the teacher and you are the student -- will you learn the lesson I'm giving you right now? And if we answer yes -- by choosing to be truthful, kind, patient, loyal -- we are teaching what we are learning in the very same moment. All of our actions are meant to be whole and complete in this way, where one serves and is served in one beautiful, upward movement. Find ways this week in which you can be both student and teacher by simply (and quietly) doing what you know to be right and true.
